ADDICTION AND RECOVERY

“Addiction is manifested in any behavior that a person craves, finds temporary relief or pleasure in but suffers negative consequences as a result of, and yet has difficulty giving up … addiction is neither a choice nor a disease, but originates in a human being’s desperate attempt to solve a problem: the problem of emotional pain, of overwhelming stress, of lost connection, of loss of control, of a deep discomfort with the self. In short, it is a forlorn attempt to solve the problem of human pain. Hence my mantra: 'The question is not why the addiction, but why the pain.'”

You Are Not Alone

The first step to recovery is recognizing that the problem is not being solved with continued addictive behavior.  You have a longing to live in freedom … fully alive. You deserve to experience healing and the abundance of the grace-filled life you were made to live. You are not alone. You may be experiencing some of the following signs or symptoms that often accompany addiction:

  • Regular, often intense, urge or craving for behavior (activity or use)

  • Focus too much attention on how to satisfy the urge or craving

  • Need for more with decreased satisfaction

  • Several failed attempts to stop the behavior

  • Narrowing perspective

  • Increasing neglect of relationships, work, and self-care

  • Deep knowing that “this isn’t me”

  • Ambivalence about change

I welcome the opportunity to walk alongside you as you learn and practice healthy ways to navigate difficulty and pain in your life - all the while unfolding into a fuller version of the true you.
